I must admit I do not fully understand the concept of the virtual basket...
I understand how it operates, but not specifically why it is better or worse than not using it. I mean, price can always go in any direction anyways, right?
Hi,
I hope Alan and Forexpinbar won’t mind if I use their back tests screenshots to highlight the concept and they might jump in and give their feedback also.
The explanation is for the Virtual Basket Mode 1. I have prepared a full explanation as it might me useful for other guys also to understand the concept
So, at the beginning this concept is coming from their back tests which were performed on Excel, below are a few screenshots. When you have a minimum pips = 0 on a time slot, look at the max pips and minimum pips in the next time slot, and the same for maximum pips. On those screenshots, most of the time when you have a minimum pips = 0 on the 08:00 AM time slot, on the following time slot 09:00 AM and also the next one 10:00 AM the minimum pips is almost 0 (no Drawdown) and the maximum pips is great.

So, to summarize, it’s like having a single trade open which go straight into GOOD profit without any drawdown. It would mean that there is strength and momentum. And most of the time, when you enter such a trade on the next candles you still have this strength and momentum.
So here it is the same idea but with the whole basket. Off course, price can go in any direction… But it is a good indication that there is strength in this basket.
The second thing which I like with this VB is that you don’t rely on time anymore (you don’t care about LO NYO…). Once the VB is open it will monitor the minimum and maximum pips count and only open a basket if there are good conditions. Most of the time, during ranging conditions we won't have a mim pips or max pips = 0 and so the VB won't trigger a basket.
Here is the perfect example of such a basket in action, no DD (limited to spread) and straight into profit:

Here is my full statement with computed results so far. The first days (even the first week) tests were not good as it was more a kind of technical test to see if the concept was working fine in the DB:

Here are this week results only since the option to close the VB on an opposite signal and open a reversal basket was coded and since the VB is perfectly working:

You can notice the really low drawdown values. On Wednesday which was not a good day there were several opposite signals and at the end a big loss. At the moment, I am not using any SL to get some stats but with a SL of 200 pips (the value I would probably use) the results would be even better.
Those VB tests are still at an early stage, now I have to improve settings:
- Which min pips / max pips value is the best one to use to trigger VB? At the moment, I am using 20 as a 0 value is not common, maybe a value of 10 would be better…
- Which CCFp settings are the best for the VB (Daily, Weekly, FT, FF…): At the moment, I am testing the VB test 10 on the basis of my test 1 (Daily setup) but it might be better to use a weekly setup as for the Excel back test ?
…
So there are still some questions and off course more stats needed, but I really like what I see so far.
