When you install MT4 with the EXE, it installs some files into the directory “Program files” and the customized files are placed into the user directory (“C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming…”).

So, when you want to install some indicators or EAs you have to place them into the user directory: “C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming…”

With the portable mode, all files are stored in the “program files” directories which make it easier to save and copy instances of MT4 as you just have to copy the directory from “program files”.

No problem, I understand what you mean and am aware of the different locations... I did not know about the portable mode though, where is this specified as an option during the installation?

Can someone explain to me why does my session never turns to Green ? Because of this my trades are not being taken

Just so you know this has really helped me out, the MT4 installation I use for backtesting with 99% tickdata is so big its been bursting my hard drive... With this /portable option I have moved it to a fresh drive, so much better!

I am happy that it helped you , it is a must, I really use it all the time, all my instances are in portable mode.

Also when you want to save an installation, or move it, or launch it from an usb key... it is so much easier...
