MyEtherWallet is an open-source, client-side Ether wallet. The wallet, like most cryptocurrency wallets, lets you easily and securely interact with the Ethereum network. You can use MyEtherWallet with or without a hardware wallet.
MyEtherWallet are not "web wallets". You do not create an account or give them your Ether to hold onto. All data is created on our computer/your browser, not their servers. It's not a website where you put your Ether and they store it for you. They just make it easy for you to save your wallet information in your browser/on your computer. Then they give you a place where you can access that information and do stuff with it.
The unique thing about MyEtherWallet, also known as MEW, is that you can use conventional cold storage wallets like Ledger or Trezor to access your account. Your device is your wallet. MyEtherWallet is a wallet software that lets you interact with the Ethereum network.
